12:13 pm - Waymarking promoted in Groundspeak's Weekly Newsletter
It's unfortunate that it's blogworthy to mention, but Waymarking, along with Wherigo, and of course Geocaching (and the new Challenges),

Waymarking Geocaching Challenges Wherigo Groundspeak

are all promoted in this weeks newsletter.

They say,
You're probably already familiar with geocaching, but how many other Groundspeak adventures have you tried? Challenges, Waymarking and Wherigo provide hundreds of thousands of additional location-based adventures, all accessible for free via your Groundspeak membership.

So, the next time you go find a geocache, search for one of these other adventures nearby. Can't find enough of them? Create your own!

and links are provided for each different site.

08:11 pm - Introducing Waymarking Scavenger Hunts
Copied straight from the Waymarking homepage:

Introducing Waymarking Scavenger Hunts

Signal introduces scavenger hunts Groundspeak is excited to announce a new addition to Waymarking.com. Introducing: Scavenger Hunts!

A scavenger hunt is a game – a personal or shared challenge – to find a collection of waymarks in a particular area. A hunt can range in difficulty from a simple search within a few miles of your starting point, to one that covers an area of almost 200,000 square miles! You don’t have to be crazy to attempt the most difficult scavenger hunt, but it helps. Start small and work your way up while exploring your neighborhood and city.

I'd like to create a new scavenger hunt now

10:52 pm - So what's going on?
Jeremy Irish posted this over on posterous.

"...such as Wherigo Cartridges and the replacement for Virtuals."

The lack of mentioning "Waymarking.com" disturbs me.

So I guess they're working, not only on a "replacement for virtuals" but a replacement for waymarking, too?

04:18 pm - FAQ: How do you add photos to a Visit log?
Q: How do you add photos to a Visit Log?

A: After you submit your log, the site will acknowledge it, and on that acknowledgment page there's a link to upload a photo.

If you're already past that, there's another way.

Go to the waymark page, scroll to the bottom of the page so you can see your visit listed.

Click on your visit.

On the Waymark Visit page that comes up, look on the left side of the page, right beneath the map. There are four links there:

Edit Visit/Comment

View Visit/Comment

Upload Visit Image  <----- Click this one!

View Gallery.

The Upload Gallery Image page will open after click Upload Visit Image.
While the site claims to accept 4MB files, it has a short timeout. If it DOES time out, it does NOT tell you that.
Instead, it just gives you the Upload Gallery Image page...with all the info cleared out of the blanks.

If you get that, try reducing the size of the photo.
1024x768 or 800x600 usually work quite well.
