Drawing Waymarks

I have a category proposal currently in the forums: Sketching Game?
And I have created the group: Starving Artists

That stunning artistic crayon on yellow notebook rendering of a Garmin eTrex was done by yours truly. I was hoping it would set the tone that this category is open to everyone and should be fun.

Below the lj-cut is a first draft preview:

Expanded Description:
This is a Waymarking Game that involves rendering a hand-drawn image of the location being waymarked. Any location can be waymarked and waymarkers, both posters and visitors, are encouraged to use a medium that they are individually comfortable using.

Nobody needs to be Monet.

Posting Instructions:
Mark coordinates using a handheld GPS receiver at the location where the hand-drawn image was created so visitors will be able to take advantage of a similar view.

Your choice of medium for your hand-drawn image is wide open. Make sure your finished product can be scanned into a digital image file for upload or, if nothing else, be photographed with your digital camera. If you have to take a picture of your hand-drawing, crop the image so only the drawing is presented.

Hand-drawn images in the mediums of digital artwork, such as pixel art, will be accepted.

No photographic images of the location itself should be uploaded to the gallery.

In your Long Description, provide some interesting information about the location.

Posters can use the Long Description, the optional Variables, or both to provide information about their choice of medium and viewing location.

Visiting Instructions:
Visit the coordinates given for the location. Create a hand-drawn artwork of the location from the same viewing location or a different location. If you choose to drawn from a different perspective, note your coordinates in your visit log. Also include information about which medium you selected and any interesting information you may have about the location that wasn’t included in the Long Description. Make sure your finished product can be scanned into a digital image file for upload or, if nothing else, be photographed with your digital camera. If you have to take a picture of your hand-drawing, crop the image so only the drawing is presented.

Hah! This is creative. And it could force me to get a drawing program for my iPhone.

Now to let my subconscious pick it apart....

And it could force me to get a drawing program for my iPhone.

I'll have to adjust language in the description that allows for all of these different types of technologically based hand-drawing.

What about a photo of an etch-a-sketch drawing?

If you DO allow that, be prepared for those TINY Etch-a-sketches.

Imagine how much someone could waymark in a day with one of these:

No dial controls or shake erasing to slow you down!

My daughter has one of those boards. If you get this off the ground you may see a submission using it.

If any self-respecting adult is willing to sit in public and draw with a big ol' Doodle Pro, I won't hesitate to approve the waymark! :)

Something to consider:

What if the requirement is to sketch something that has already been waymarked...by someone else?

At the rate we're going, if it's not already a waymark, it will be one. It's something to consider. We can add a variable for the waymark code or link to the waymark.

We're going to have to do something about signs and historical markers. A drawing of an historical marker would suck. We'll have to specify that the drawing has to be of whatever the marker is ABOUT.

Bonus points for imagining and drawing something that's not there anymore, marked by an historical marker.

But let's keep it realistic. I don't think we'll need Rambo combating an alien attack at the old train station. So maybe not so much imagination...
